Dissection of the urea amidohydrolase operons from 2 ammonia-oxidizing bacteria

The upper panel shows the structure of the urease operon from the beta-proteobacterium Nitrosospira sp. strain NpAV, which is common in soils. The whole genome of its close relative, Nitrosospira multiformis (Surinam), has been sequenced and published.

The lower panel shows the structure of the urease operon from the marine gamma-proteobacterium, Nitrosococcus oceani ATTC 19707. The whole genome of this bacterium has also been sequenced and published.

Phylogenetic consensus tree constructed from ClustalX in-frame aligned full-length UreC protein sequences following a Bayesian analysis.
